Burek sa Sirom (Balkan Feta-Cream Cheese Pie)

Aggiornamento: 16 apr 2023

Burek sa sirom is a Balkan savory pie made with flaky filo (also spelled "phyllo") dough and, in this case, a combination of feta and cream cheeses.

It is popular among Bulgarians, Bosnians, Serbians, Croats, Turks and, of course, there are the famous triangle-shaped Greek spanakopitas.

There are myriad versions of burek some with cheese (or cheese and spinach) filling and some with meat filling.

for now we have tried the recipe with cheese but sooner or later we will also try the meat burek!

What do you need

150 gr greek yogurt

400 gr feta cheese

1 egg

Extra virgin olive oil

Sesame seeds for garnish

How to proceed

Prepare the filling by mixing the feta cheese, yogurt and egg and let it rest

Roll out one piece of phyllo dough on a floured surface. you need to get an elongated rectangular shape.

Brush the dough with the oil and then fold it over on the short side to obtain a lower strip.

Fill the strip of pastry with the filling and roll up.

In an oiled pan, place the roll of filling in a spiral starting from the center and continue in the same way with the rest of the pastry and the filling until the pan is complete. brush with oil and decorate with sesame seeds.

cokk in a hot oven at 180 C for 40 minutes and let cool before serving.
