Immersing yourself in traditions is a wonderful activity for children who can rediscover their roots from simple daily actions.
The heritage to draw on is infinite: every country is rich in wonderful peasant legends, rites and beliefs that influenced the life of our grandparents who knew what the weather or the harvest or the prosperity of the earth would be like... only from little clues!
There are many legends for each season: in these days we have remembered the legend of the persimmon seeds!
According to tradition, from the observation of persimmon seeds it is possible to predict the climate of the upcoming winter. The secret lies in opening a seed vertically.
Now separate the two ends of the seed and ... look at the inner surface! On it there are small shoots that, on closer inspection, resemble either a spoon, or a fork, or a knife.
We found a spoon! You know what that means?
If the sprout looks like a spoon, it means that winter will be cold and there will be a lot of rain and snow. According to the saying, in fact, with the spoon there would have been "a lot of snow to shovel". If, on the other hand, you notice that the sprout has the shape of a fork, it means that the upcoming winter should not be feared too much because it will be mild.
Finally, if you notice that the sprout has the shape of a knife, winter will be very cold and dry, therefore with little rainfall.
Discover the farming traditions of your country with your child and tell us about them: we will be happy to share on our blog!
